Indiana Poker Drive To Benefit Boys And Girls Club

The Martinsville Elks Lodge are inviting all Morgan County residents to participate in their fifth charity poker run, starting at noon, Sept. 16. The poker run will be for the benefit of the Morgan County Boys and Girls Club.

Participants for the poker run may ride as a passenger or a driver in their own vehicles or with the Elks Lodge group. The route will take them to Bloomington, then on to Columbus, followed by Franklin, then back to Martinsville. The group will make stops at the host town's Elks club for rest and refreshments.

"Once you've ridden on a motorcycle you get a little stiff, so it gives us a place to stretch a bit," said Martha St. John, the poker run chairman for the Martinsville Elks Club.

The charity has donated money in the past to the Hurricane Katrina cleanup, cancer societies and the tornado clean up. The poker run has been steadily growing, from the inaugural run's 12 participants, they are now expecting anywhere between 40 to 50 riders.

Entry to the event costs $20 per person, or $30 a couple. Refreshments will be provided for the participants at each stop, with additional door prizes to be given out at Martinsville, the final stop. St. John also added that Tommy McQueary, the Elks president of Indiana will be joining the ride.
